Last week, I got to sit down with one of my musical heroes and one of the hardest working guys in music. It's been over 15 years since I first heard Bob Nanna with Braid. And in the last year-or-so, I've probably seen the guy perform about five times. The night we shot these videos he was performing with The City on Film at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City. Two weeks before that I caught his band Lifted Bells at the Run For Cover showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, where they tied The Velvet Teen for the best band I saw in those five days that I saw over 30 bands. Back in January, Bob was at St. Vitus in Brooklyn, NY as The City on Film when I interviewed his tourmates Gates and Young Statues. Last year I saw him on the Downwrite tour with Matt Pryor at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, and I've seen Braid a couple times since 2013. Luckily, he wasn't too burnt out to sit down with us for a great interview and two acoustic songs.
Check out the videos below. In the interview, Bob talks about being on the road so much after recently getting married last September, how music has changed for him in the 20 years he's been playing, and he opens up about the time he beat Lymphoma. He also performs an acoustic version of "Easy Living Rooms" from The City on Film's new record La Vella and an acoustic cover of Lifter Puller's "Secret Santa Cruz. Enjoy!
